Actually, I'm thinking of printing a few t-shirts in the coming months. I'll probably ask the community which are their favourite t-shirts and then print the best ones :o)
No, the staff is not meant to be ironic. I guess it's just bad drawing. If the cartoon is better with the irony, then assume it's supposed to be like that :o)
