Hi Hyunil, thanks for asking. I must admit this cartoon is a bit obscure. Yes, sometimes there is value in counting bugs or using metrics to help make decisions on the software/project. But this needs to be done carefully as each bug is unique and its severity or priority level is subjective (a similar argument can be made about counting test cases). I suggest you read this blog post which has a number of excellent links about the topic (especially the link to a Kaner & Bond article): http://www.developsense.com/blog/2009/01/meaningful-metrics/
Very cool cartoon again! We should show this cartoon to all these stakeholders which still do believe only on the naked numbers named in any bug reports and they will change their mind!
I'm a tester, I test, some days I enjoy testing. I follow a few testing blogs and when ever I can I add comments in test forums. I hope through the test cartoon blog, testers will understand something new about the craft of testing. You can contact me on cartoontesting@gmail.com
what does it mean?
ReplyDeletea little bit, I don't understand~
Just, the bug count may not be meaningless.
GOLD! Oh, this is one of my faves for sure!
